Star Heavner
Starlet Heavner is a valuable member of the Veterinary Specialties team. Star has been assisting Dr. Barber and her clients since 2006. She came to Veterinary Specialties with eight years experience working in veterinary hospitals. Her vast knowledge about the various breeds and their conformation brings an added service to our breeder clients.
Star was introduced to Dr. Barber in fall of 2000 when Dr. Jane managed a breeding and performed a fresh chilled artificial insemination on one of her “golden girls.” The breeding produced 8 lovely puppies and Star was relieved to no longer have to think about the risks of shipping dogs long distances for breeding purposes. Star's back ground is in commercial design and advertising marketing. She used her skills in design to create Dr. Barber's current logo for her practice.
With twelve years breeding under the Cameo Golden Retrievers Kennel, Cameo has produced over 15 Canadian Kennel Club (CC) champions and 5 American Kennel Club (AC) champions. Several of the Cameo golden's are touching lives in hospitals and nursing homes as therapy dogs. Cameo's breeding program focuses on sound structure and great temperaments. Star's philosophy is breed from the head not the heart.
Star lives in Caraway with her husband Jack of 18 years, 7 golden retrievers, 1 "Caraway terrier" and 2 wonderful cats. Her daughter, Sierra, graduated from North Carolina University at Chapel Hill in 2008.
